42° 21' 18.588" N, 83° 3' 45.742" W (Detroit's Angel)

from $60.00

This statue sits atop the First Congregational Church on Woodward Avenue. With the skyline in view, I like to describe it as the Angel that watches over Detroit.

I’ve never actually seen the inside of this place, so I decided to give it a Google, but before I could click on images I was sidetracked by the reviews.

Erma Harris - as of 7 years ago - gave the church a 3/5 star review, leaving the comment, “Beautiful church nice peoples I heard they have under ground rail road.”

More than I want to know what the inside of this church looks like, I NEED to know why she left out the other 2 stars. When she refers to the “underground railroad,” is she referring to THE underground railroad? The one that helped safely hide escaped slaves on their way freedom? Does she…..does she know that there wasn’t a literal underground railroad? Is that what caused the deduction? When she asked if she could see the railroad, did they tell her no? Was that it?

There’s nothing quite like a 3 star reviewer; The kind of person that goes to Golden Corral and is shocked the steak is dry….The kind of person who deducts two stars from a Wendy’s Yelp! review because they only gave 2 ketchup packets…The kind of person who takes a cruise and claims to be a world traveler…The kind of person who doesn’t return their cart at the grocery store…The kind of person who - if they do all that and are about to purchase this print - I wholeheartedly support.
